7th of July is called “Tanabata,” Happy Star Festival.  This is one of the Japanese traditional annual events, and related to the old story in China.

That is, July 7 is the only day when the two distant stars, the princess and prince star, can reunite although they are forced to live apart from each other for the rest of the year.  According to the story, the couple was lazy and didn’t work at all after marriage, so God separated those two to one side and the other side of the Milky Way.

On this day, we Japanese decorate bamboo branches with colorful paper ornaments and paper strips with our wishes on it.

Please refer to the Tour Report of East Garden of Imperial Palace on July 6 as well so that you can find various Tanabata Festivals held around Tokyo.  Also, the following information would be good for the people who will stay in Japan till August:

We hope you can find more and more local events attractive during your stay in Japan!

Coming soon next in the Meiji-Jingu Museum is “A Breath of Fresh Air with Beauty and Culture”  How did the old people spend in hot weather those days when there were neither air-conditioners nor fridges?

Your feedback or comments are always important and helpful to us all. If you enjoyed our tour, please consider posting a review on our Facebook, homepage, Instagram etc.  Once again, thank you very much for joining the Tokyo Free Walking Tour during your precious time in Tokyo.  Please don’t forget to share your experiences with your families and friends!
