It rained during the tour, but we still enjoyed sharing our different cultures. Have you heard of Tsukimi? It means ‘moon viewing’ and is a traditional Japanese celebration held in autumn to honor the harvest moon. It typically takes place in September or October, on the 15th night of the lunar calendar, known as Jūgoya. During Tsukimi, people gather to admire the full moon, as it is considered the most beautiful at this time of year. Traditional foods like dango, sweet rice dumplings, are offered to the moon as a way of giving thanks for the harvest and symbolizing prosperity. Japanese pampas grass, or susuki, is also displayed as part of the seasonal decorations. Tsukimi is a time to reflect on the beauty of nature and express gratitude for the blessings of the season.
