We’re so thankful that you have chosen Tokyo Free Walking Tour in Asakusa and Ueno Park on December 11th. 13 people joined our tours from US, Canada, India, Malaysia and Australia. The weather was fine at the beginning of winter. The autumn colors of the ginkgo trees at Ueno Park are still beautiful. The photos which we took during the tours are posted.
Following our latest report, December 13th is a special day for Sensoji Temple. The Goddess of Mercy which is housed at its main hall will be displayed to the public. The Sensoji houses two precious statues: the absolutely hidden statue and its substitute. They are objects of worship for believers.
The original statue which was found and housed about 1.400 years ago has never been opened to the public. Its substitute is also usually closed but is open once a year on December 13th in place of the original statue. It’s a wooden statue and is 50-60 cm in size. They are truly a blessing for believers.
The viewing time will be 2pm for just 20 minutes. The event will be held after the yearly house cleaning. Although the main hall will be crowded with people who want to give a glance at the statue, visitors will be able to see it from the outer hall. For you to have a closer look at the statue, come early.
This is a rare opportunity. Why not visit Sensoji Temple and have a look at the Goddess of Mercy on December 13th if you are around.
We appreciate your participation in Tokyo Free Walking Tour and look forward to seeing you at other opportunities in the future.
