East Gardens of the Imperial Palace

Cherry Blossoms still blossoming, Report on the tour to the East Garden of the Imperial Palace, 12 April 2025

East Gardens of the Imperial Palace

Many thanks to the guests who participated in Tokyo Free Walking Tour of that day. On that day in the tour to the East Garden we hosted 36 people from Germany, Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Philippine, Belgium and UK. It was a week after full-bloom of cherry blossoms so usually you can only view mostly faded out cherry trees but this season some still remain lasting longer than usual due to the cooler weather in recent days. We could luckily enjoy still blossoming cherry trees in the East Garden in the fine weather.

We hope all of you enjoyed and shared interesting conversations with us during the tour. As promised, group photos and snapshots are attached to remember the fun times we had.

In Japan cherry blossoms are said to give a life lesson to people, that is “A good thing in life is a sudden and rare gift to everyone because life is full of agony. You can only enjoy happiness in a short period of time just like short-lived cherry blossoms.

Happy days pass so quickly. So you have to enjoy such time as much as you can and should not expect it to last very long.

What did you learn from our tours with cherry blossoms?

We may have shared short-lived happy hours and tried to enjoy such time to the fullest because we do not know what comes afterwards. “Only for that moment we could share happiness,” we may say later in life. Sometimes the world is in turmoil because of wars, economy and politics. But we were together in that moment sharing happiness and possibly learned how to live life more wisely.

In this tour you can learn some interesting history about Tokugawa Shoguns who established the East Garden premise and governed Japan for 15 generations peacefully without wars after more than a century long warring state period. During the warring state period a human life was dispensable. But the Shoguns could maintain peace of the nation for more than 2 and half centuries (1603-1867). They had got a wisdom to make “cherry blossoms” last longer.

Why not join us and learn how to enjoy life and live life better?

Again, thank you for participating in Tokyo Free Walking Tour. We hope to see you again and meet more wonderful people around the world in the future.

If you miss cherry blossoms this year, you can come back to Japan next spring and hopefully we can meet and enjoy short-lived happiness to the fullest.
