Many thanks for joining Tokyo Free Walking Tour at Asakusa on August 30, 2025. We welcomed 14 guests from Germany, USA, Canada and Philippines. It was a tremendous opportunity for us to meet wonderful guests from many countries and share interesting conversations. As promised, group photos and snapshots are attached so that you can remember the fun times we had during the tour.

We would like to thank our guests for joining us today even though it was extremely hot. “There is a Japanese proverb that says, ‘Heat and cold last until the equinoctial week.’ It means that the extreme heat of summer and the severe cold of winter usually ease around the time of the equinox. We are truly looking forward to the arrival of autumn.

Since the Asakusa Samba Carnival was scheduled to take place, traffic restrictions were in place on the main street in front of Kaminarimon. Normally, our tour begins with going up to the Asakusa Culture and Tourist Information Center to enjoy a panoramic view of the Asakusa area, but today we started the tour from Kaminarimon instead.

After the tour, some of our guides had lunch at Kamiya Bar. It was crowded with many people, and even though it was lunchtime, they were enjoying cold beer and Denki Bran. Kamiya Bar is a historic bar and restaurant located in Asakusa. It opened in 1880 and is known as Japan’s first Western-style bar. Even today, it remains a popular spot among both locals and tourists for its nostalgic atmosphere and reasonable prices. Denki Bran is a unique alcoholic drink created at Kamiya Bar in the late 19th century. The name literally means ‘Electric Brandy.’ At the time, electricity was considered modern and cutting-edge, so the drink was given this catchy name. It is a brandy-based cocktail blended with gin, wine, and herbs, and has been loved for over a century as the signature drink of Kamiya Bar.
