East Gardens of the Imperial Palace

Many thanks to the guests who participated in the tour of the day. On that day we hosted 14 guests from U.K., Italy, Netherland, Canada, Germany, USA, Ukraine, Ecuador and Philippines. The weather was cold and rainy like winter despite Vernal Equinox Day in the calendar marked as the beginning of spring time.

We hope all of the guests enjoyed the tours and conversation with the guides. As promised photos taken during the tour are posted on this page to recall the fun memories we shared.

As mentioned in the title, we guide the imperial palace, residence of Japan’s highest people who are regarded as Japan’s symbol of national unity. Some of our guests might visit Japan along with other Asian nations. They might find some similarities and differences in comparison. The imperial palace is the very one. For example, in Bangkok, capital city of Thailand has the one. One of the guides of the day visited the palace last February.

The similarities are mixture of western and traditional structures because both nations were eager to acquire western culture to modernize the nations since the nineteenth century. Both Japan and Thailand are influenced by British monarchy and culture as you see our meeting point, red-bricked Tokyo Station Building which was designed by a Japanese architect, Tatsuno Kingo, who studied architecture in England.

As for Thailand, King Rama 4th as depicted in the film “King and I” hired a British teacher and enthusiastically acquired western culture and strengthened diplomacy with western nations.

The difference is Bangkok Palace has a Buddhist temple within the premises, meaning more religiously sacred place. In addition to that, in Thailand, people are not allowed to criticize the king. In Japan we can.

Comparing to the same facility in other nations might give you a great insight to your trip experience. We, the guides are always ready to help you with getting such insights.
