There is a proverb in Japan that says, “No summer heat nor winter cool goes beyond “Higan”. “Higan” refers to the one-week period centered around the Vernal Equinox and Autumnal Equinox Day. This year, “Higan” was from September 20th to 26th. We were able to see “Higan-Bana” (red spider lily) in the garden. Today, however, it was unseasonably hot and humid.
The night before the tour was the harvest moon. On this day, it is customary to watch the full moon while eating “Dango” (dumpling), but you can also enjoy hamburgers that are only available at this time of year. This event is called “Tsukimi” (Moon Viewing), and Tsukimi Soba noodles is also named after this.
