We’re grateful that you chose Tokyo Free Walking Tour in Asakusa on Wednesday, 5th February. Five people kindly joined the tour from America, Switzerland and Germany. We were lucky to take a group photo with a prominent chivalrous robber during the Edo period. The doll has been repaired and has just returned to its original place. The photos we took during the tour are posted as a memory for you.

There is a traditional Japanese garden on the left side of Sensoji Temple main hall. It’s small but has a nice atmosphere. You may be amazed at Tokyo’s oldest existing stone bridge which has been standing for more than 400 years.

A Toshogu shrine was built in 1618 to enshrine Tokugawa Ieyasu(1543-1616), the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate who administered Japan for 265 years during the Edo period. At that time, the stone bridge was built and connected to the shrine for visitors to pass for worshipping. The Toshogu is said to be in great bustle because it was located close enough and accessible for the Edo citizens to pray for the soul of Ieyasu. But unfortunately, the building was destroyed by fire and was never reconstructed. The stone bridge was left and remains more than 400 years. The sacred bridge is designated as an Important Cultural Property.

We can enjoy viewing the long-exiting stone bridge, fancy Koi(colored carps) and the surrounding ambience in the pretty garden. Sensoji Temple precincts have many more attractions and don’t make visitors feel bored.
Your choice of Tokyo Free Walking Tour is greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to seeing you again in our other future tours.
