Tour report of Asakusa and Ueno on November 26th: with some information for your visit in December

Asakusa

Many thanks for joining Tokyo Free Walking Tour. We welcomed a guest from Brazil in Asakusa tour and also a guest from Australia in Ueno tour. It was a pleasant sunny day with brilliant autumn colors under the bule sky.

In Asakusa, it looks that preparations for the coming winter and the end of the year have already started.

The annual Last Festival of the year is held on December 17th-19th. The “Hagoita” (battledores)Market is held, and you can buy beautifully crafted battledores. Some are modeled after celebrities who were active this year, so it would be fun to look for Shohei Otani’s feather board or your favorite’s one.

Prior to that, on December 13th, you will be given the great opportunity to see the secret Buddha statue only once a year.

A restaurant has equipped “Yukitsuri”, which looks like a rope umbrella, a measure to protect mainly pine trees from heavy snow. I don’t think we have heavy snow in Tokyo, but such tradition surely brings us a welcoming mood for the next season.

As promised, group photos and snapshots are attached so that you can remember the fun time we had during the tour.

Asakusa We had a warm-hearted lady from Brazil and explored a bit of backstreet of Asakusa along with our regular route. At Chingo-do Hall, the yellow leaves of Ginko were marvelous and we enjoyed peaceful time with the voice of children playing inside of the garden behind the hedge.

UENO We welcomed a nice, well-informed gentleman from Australia. He was very interested in Japanese history and asked many questions, that motivated our future learning. Thank you!! We had a great time with him, and I hope he enjoyed the active conversation with local guides.

Once again, thank you so much for joining us on our tour. We always make efforts to improve our tours and highly appreciate your feedback on Tripadvisor or our Instagram/Facebook pages.   Your comments motivate us to continue our volunteer activities. Please tell your family and friends about how you enjoyed our tour.

Next time you’re in Tokyo, please check out our websiteFacebook, or “Tokyo Free Walking Tour” on Tripadvisor for other tours at East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine/Harajuku, Yanaka-Nezu and Around Japan tour in Nihonbashi. We’d love to see you again!!
