Today, I had an amazing time showing a super friendly family around Meiji Shrine and Harajuku. They had two energetic elementary school kids, and it was such a fun experience!

Now, let me tell you five reasons why I think our free walking tour is great for families with kids. Since we’re volunteer-run and completely free, we can’t guarantee everything will go exactly as described, but most of the time, these points hold true!

1. We Go at Your Kid’s Pace
Our tours are small—usually about 4 to 8 people—with 2 to 3 guides, which means we can be flexible. If your kid suddenly needs a bathroom break, no worries! We make sure the group stays engaged while helping families out, so you don’t have to stress about holding up the tour.

2. Kids can enjoy learning about Japanese culture and history
Children visiting Japan for the first time often have lots of questions. Since we have several guides, at least one of us will be happy to patiently answer your child’s questions and help them understand.

3. We try to keep kids engaged
We get it—tours can feel long for kids. That’s why some of our guides offer fun extras like scavenger hunts or Origami paper crafts, giving kids something interactive to do while they explore.

4. Plenty of chances to take great family photos
Want to snap the perfect family shot? Our guides know all the best spots to take memorable photos, whether it’s a peaceful shrine or the colorful streets of Harajuku.

5. A unique experience for both parents and kids
Culture is all about people, and talking to local guides is a great way to experience it. During the tour, both kids and adults can chat with us and enjoy real, friendly conversations.
