Tour report of the East Garden of the Imperial Palace on Dec. 14

East Gardens of the Imperial Palace

Time flies and it’s already the end of this year.

This is a typical Japanese common expression in winter. We use this sentence every Year-end as usual. Very fortunately, we welcomed 5 guests from Malaysia, U.S.A, and Philippine.  Thank you for choosing TFWT even though it was so cold. We were so happy!

I hope all of you enjoyed and shared interesting conversations with us during the tour. As promised, group photos and snapshots are attached to remember the fun times we had.

Now the colored leaf in Tokyo remains this year. It gets colder and colder but clear weather and a difference between hot and cold temperature is good to keep beautiful color of leaves. I think we can enjoy it at least two more weeks.

By the way, do you know “Boro-ichi” Flea Market in Setagaya City in Tokyo?

“Boro-ichi” is held on Dec. 15,16 and Jan. 15,16 every year. It is said that Boro-ichi started in 1578. It was about 440 years ago in War Time of Japan. One of the strong military commander Hojo Ujimasa opened public market where people could buy and sell freely without permission to enliven the town of Setagaya. Now this market is designated as Tokyo Metropolitan Intangible folk cultural properties. At first the market sold agricultural tools and New Year’s items, but gradually it began to sell second-hands cloths and fabrics. Then the name was changed to “Boro-ichi. Boro means second-hands cloths and fabrics. Boro-ichi is held at Boro-ichi Street near Kamimachi station of Tokyu Setagaya line. The Street has a historic museum using an old -style official’s mansion. That is so interesting. In addition, there is a famous Temple named Gotokuji known as beckoning cats in neighborhood. You will enjoy both Boro-ichi and beckoning cats. If you are interested in “Boro-ichi”, please visit website of Setagaya-City.
