Around Japan in a Half Day Tour on Nov.22

Report

Thank you for joining the last tour of the autumn season of ”Around Japan Tour” on November 22.

“Around Japan in a Half Day Tour” is a short program about 1.5hours that takes place on Saturday mornings where you can experience the specialties and charms of three prefectural antenna shops in various regions of Japan — all while staying in Tokyo.
This time, we guided a very friendly family of four from Australia. We hope all of you enjoyed and shared interesting conversations with us during the tour.

As promised , group photos and snapshots are attached to remember the fun times we had.

We first visited an antenna shop operated by Fukushima Prefecture. Fukushima is located in the Tohoku region of Japan, and it is famous for its various kinds of local foods.

This is the autamn harvest season, and” Aizu-grown Koshihikari ” rice and fresh local fruits are colorfully displayed in the store. Guests can also enjoy a close-up look at the soba noodles being made and a tasting of the newly-finished autumn sake “Akiagari.”

Then , we walked along Chuo-Dori Street towards Tokyo Station .This is the exact spot where the Mitsui family crest was depicted in an ukiyo-e print from the Edo period. The Mitsui Main Building was built in the Meiji period. And today on your left is the main building of the Mitsukoshi Department Store.

And then, we visited Nihonnbashi Bridge. Originally, the very fast Nihonbashi Bridge was built in 1603 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The wooden bridge burnt down several times over the centuries. The current bridge was reconstructed in stone in 1911.

The Nihonbashi Bridge was established as the starting point for the five major roads called “Gokaido” (Tokaido,Nakasendo,Nikko-Kaido,Kosyu-Kaido and Oshu-Kaido)

And, the origins of Tukiji and Toyosu-Market are also in Nihonbashi. The fishmarket was established when fishermen who supplied fish at the foot of Nihonbashi, and continued to exist until it was moved to Tukiji after the Great Kanto Earthquake.
