The day before was the winter solstice, and Asakusa Shrine offers special Goshuin stamps to coincide with the seasonal event. Some of our guests even got the winter solstice version.
And now, preparations are gradually underway within the grounds of Sensoji Temple for the New Year.
Asakusa Shrine is decorated with pine and bamboo. Pine and bamboo are symbols of vitality, longevity, and prosperity, and are therefore revered as auspicious plants for the New Year, as they do not wither and remain green even in winter. Nakamise shopping street has also changed from autumn leaves to New Year decorations. Under the cold sky, we felt the change of seasons.
